Give Back: Mentorship means a lot to me.

Updated: Dec 10, 2023

NYU was a dream come true for me but, as a transfer student, the transition was a bit difficult at first. I knew that the only way things would change was if I put myself out there and get involved on campus. One of the clubs that I joined was called GQ (Gentlemen of Quality) and instantly I found my community. One of the pillars of GQ is community service and we made sure to always give back. One of the ways we gave back was by our mentorship program. Once a week we would go to Hudson/Baldwin High School and speak with the high school students there. Our impact there was so meaningful that when the school decided to start a high school fraternity we were listed as some of the founders.

Along with being a mentor and one of the frat founders, I was blessed with the opportunity to design the fraternity crest. It took me about two weeks to finish it but I'm really happy with how it came out, the kids and administration loved it too.

Here's an illustration of the process:

I mainly used Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop for this project. The original sketch was drawn by one of the high school students.

Question:

What does mentorship mean to you?
